In a world inundated with skincare products promising miracles in a bottle, it’s easy to overlook the simple and time-honored practice of oil cleansing. Yet, for those seeking a gentle yet effective way to cleanse their skin while maintaining its natural balance and radiance, oil cleansing offers an easy and effective experience! Plus, it is sooooooo relaxing.

Picture this: Instead of stripping your skin with harsh foaming cleansers that leave it feeling tight and dry, imagine indulging in a ritual that nourishes and replenishes your skin’s moisture barrier, leaving it soft, supple, and glowing with health. This is the promise of oil cleansing—an ancient skincare practice that harnesses the power of oils to gently dissolve impurities, makeup, and excess sebum without stripping away your skin’s natural oils.

But why choose oil cleansing over traditional cleansers? The answer lies in the vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that nourish and protect against environmental stressors. Whether you’re battling acne, fine lines, dryness, or simply seeking a more natural approach to skincare, oil cleansing offers a customizable solution for your skin’s individual needs.

How to Oil Cleanse:

To start, you will need to choose an oil blend for cleansing. There are TONS of oils to choose from, but some common choices are castor oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, almond oil, and coconut oil. You may need to experiment to find the best combination for your skin. Personally, I use grass-fed beef tallow in my oil cleansing routine.

Once you have your oil ready to go, you can follow these simple steps:

1. Apply the Oil

Pour a small amount of the oil blend into your palm and gently massage it onto dry skin. Use circular motions to distribute the oil evenly across your face, neck, and any other areas you wish to cleanse.

2. Massage Your Skin

Spend 1-2 minutes massaging the oil into your skin. This helps dissolve makeup, sunscreen, and other impurities, as well as loosening debris from your pores.

3. Steam Your Face

Enhance the cleansing process by steaming your face. Wet a clean washcloth with warm water and wring out any excess moisture. Place the warm washcloth over your face and leave it on for 1-2 minutes to help open your pores and further dissolve impurities.

Some will say this step is optional, but I say, just take the time to do it! It is so relaxing and leaves your face feeling so fresh and clean. You will not regret slowing down to reset!

4. Remove the Oil

Use the same warm washcloth to gently wipe away the oil and impurities. Rinse the washcloth as needed and repeat until all the oil has been removed.

5. Moisturize

Finish your oil cleansing routine by applying a moisturizer or facial oil to nourish and hydrate your skin. Choose a product suitable for your skin type to help maintain balance and hydration. I like to apply s balm made with grass-fed beef tallow, manuka honey, and tea tree oil because it helps heal my skin and keep my acne at bay.
